Brendan Murphy
Deputy Director, Administration Services Unit
Brendan Murphy was appointed as the Deputy Director of Administrative Services at the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security (OHS) in October 2006. Brendan is responsible for the personnel, accounting, budgeting, procurement, contracts, information technology, and grant monitoring at OHS. With the help of a very dedicated staff, the Administrative Services unit provides the tools for all OHS employees to complete their jobs. In addition, the unit is responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with the federal grants from the United States Department of Homeland Security. In this task Brendan is ultimately responsible for over $1.5 billion in monitoring activities.
Before becoming the Deputy Director of Administrative Services, Brendan was appointed as the Assistant Deputy Director of Grant Management at OHS. In this role he worked to found the grant unit at OHS and establish it as we know it today. In this role Brendan was responsible for helping to build the Grant Unit and beginning the process of managing $1.0 billion in federal funding.
Prior to coming to OHS, Brendan worked at the California Department of Finance (DOF) as a Finance Budget Analyst from 2002 to 2005. In this role he handled over $1 billion worth of funding for General Government Departments including such areas as homeland security, emergency management, criminal justice, the public records act, and election law.
In addition to OHS and DOF Brendan has also worked for the California Department of Transportation and the California Department of Corrections. He graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.
